Candler Felix Cook, Age 86, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 28, 2019 at the John F. Keever Solace Center in Asheville. He was a native of Jackson County and was the son of the late John Lewis and Ellen Watson Cook. He served in the U.S. Army as well as the U.S. Navy. Candler taught math in Jackson and Swain County school systems for 30 years. He spent several summers working for the Park Service. Candler won Mr. Carolina for 2 years in weightlifting and continued to live a life of physical activity and health. He was famous for his red corvette and use to say he would be buried in it one day. He was a bear hunter who loved his hound dogs and his cattle.
Mr. Cook is survived by his brother, Martin Alfred Cook and wife, Ora Blanche of Caney Fork, his sister Arbie Cook Rhodes and her daughter, Judy Rhodes of Arden, his neice, Marcia Cook of Caney Fork, nephews Myron Cook and his wife Jennifer of Clinton, TN., Michael Cook of Washington, GA. and several great neices and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 on Saturday, August 3, 2019 in the chapel of Western Carolina Funeral and Cremation Service. Rev. Mike Queen and Rev. Steve Webb will officiate. The family will receive friends on Saturday, August 3, 2019 at 10:00 ~ 11:00 prior to the funeral service. Memorials may be made to Caney Fork Community Center, 4121 Caney fork Road, Cullowhee, N.C., 28723.
