Wilburn Charles Netherton, 88, of Candler, N.C. went home to be with Jesus on Saturday, August 3rd, 2019 surrounded by his loving family.
Wilb is survived by his wife of 65 years., Mary DeVore and his sons, Danny (Vickey) and Ricky (Peggy) Netherton. Also, his grandchildren: Tara (Charles) Jaynes, Johnny (Janet) Moody, Diamond (Isaiah) Adams, Lauren (Jonathan) Burrell, Allison (Jason) Capps and 10 Great Grandchildren, brother Edgar (Ruby) Netherton, many nieces, nephews and extended family.
He is predeceased by his parents, Charlie and Elva Netherton, brothers Eloties and Robert and his sister Hilda N. Farmer.
Wilb retired from BASF in 1993. He was a life long active member of Brown's View United Methodist Church where he served as Choir Director for 60 years; a 32nd Degree Mason of Hominy Lodge 491, a Shriner, a Veteran of the U.S. Army, a member of the board of the former Enka Credit Union and an avid sportsman. The Netherton Family Gospel Singers have shared their music for many years throughout Western North Carolina.
A special THANK YOU to the caring staff at the Charles George V.A. Hospital in Oteen, N.C. and the Brian Center in Weaverville, N.C. for their loving care and support during his final days. A funeral service will be held at 3:00 P.M., August 8th, 2019 at Brown's View United Methodist Church. The Rev. Woody Wiggins and Rev. Sally Ann McVay will officiate. Burial will follow at Brown's View United Methodist Church Cemetery with Military honors and Masonic Rites. The family will receive friends at the church from 2:00 to 3:00 prior to the service.
