Amanda “Mandy” Shea (Cowan) Hooper, 57, of Sylva, NC passed away on December 17, 2018. Mandy was the fourth of five children born to the late Royston Duffield and Betty Hurst Cowan. Mandy graduated from Sylva-Webster High School in 1979 and was a member of the highly successful marching band. She had a passion for the outdoors; hiking, camping, fishing, and swimming. Mandy’s dogs were a large part of her existence, as she wouldn’t be seen without at least one of them by her side. With such a big spirit and infectious personality, Mandy could be seen surrounded by many people from the time she was young. She filled so many souls with laughter and smiles, always lighting up a room and bringing the best out of those around her. And now in her death, it is apparent of how many lives she touched by the amazing memories and sentiments being shared by others.
Mandy is survived by her husband, Bremm Hooper of Sylva, NC; four siblings all of Sylva NC: Ricky Cowan, Teresa (Bill) Cowan Carpenter, Kathy Cowan, and Duffield “Duffy” Cowan; five nieces/nephews, Kristy Garrett, Shea Carpenter White, Stacy Cowan, Tamrick Cowan Mull, Tiffanie Garrett Worley, Spencer Munger, Dakota Cowan, and Chelsea Munger Hamilton; and 9 great-nieces/nephews. Lastly, her fur-baby, Russ, is grieving the loss of his “mom”.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Western Carolina Funeral Home chapel on Saturday, December 22, 2018 from 3-5 pm. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in care of the funeral home to help with final expenses.
